There was a knock at the door.

The parents scrambled to their feet, shoving the children off to bed. Peeking from under the covers, Badger saw the door being opened to a pair of vampires, who were invited inside. This was probably a bad idea, but the parents weren't very smart. 

The vampires and the parents whispered and negotiated something at the table. 

Badger secretly hoped the vampires were just pretending to have something to discuss so that they could ultimately and quite suddenly eat his parents.

No such luck. In the end, the vampires handed over a stack of gold coins.
